Copywriting (not copyrighting) is writing copy (text) for marketing or promotional purposes. It’s a specialized form of writing and usually involves marketing research and a lot of tweaking to get it just right.
Copywriting is different from writing content for the web. Copy usually refers to marketing-related text (such as a sales pitch for Pepperidge Farm Bread), whereas content refers to informative text, such as for an article about quick and easy bread baking. (Can you tell I have bread rising in the next room? Well, hopefully it’s rising. Should have read up about it first.)
To confuse things, the words copy and content are sometimes used interchangeably and that can still be correct.
