Is your advice relevant beyond the US?

world globe with people and question markI am a career and business coach from and based in the U.S. and most of my followers are also here. Yet many of them are in the U.K. and other parts of the world.

Someone in the U.K. asked me: Is your career advice mainly applicable to the U.S., or does it apply equally well in other countries, like the U.K?

That’s a good question.

In a nutshell, the answer is:

Usually it’s still relevant, and I’ll say so if something is location-dependent.

My longer answer:

What’s relevant no matter the location:

  1. The career clarity process I focus on in my career coaching and my Career Clarity Course — for how to know what will work for you and for what you actually want — are relevant no matter where you are. This is a big part of my work.
  2. When I advise about self-employment, such as in my business coaching or my Self-employment Intro for Introverts and HSPs, I offer location-specific resources relevant to the U.S. and the U.K., along with suggestions on how you might find parallel options in your region.
  3. I’ve gotten good feedback about my coaching and courses from people who are from and living in many parts of the world.

When it’s more location-specific:

  1. What’s actually available and feasible for work in your area is location-specific, even within the same country. I guide people in how to explore what they need to know.
  2. Job search processes, such as what’s expected in a résumé or CV, is affected by regional norms and specific career fields. You might need a specialist who knows your area when the time comes for that part.
  3. When it seems like you would be better served by someone in a different location, I definitely say so and I might have referrals for you.
  4. Sometimes a time zone difference is enough to suggest looking for someone closer to you.

I hope that’s helpful. You’re welcome to send me a question below.
