Yet another tech snag to hijack my day. (Interruptions as gifts?)

2 minute read.

You know those times where you’re working on one thing and then some tech snag gets in your way and your time gets hijacked? For me it can be so frustrating because I really want to get the original thing done…. Argh. Pretty sure you know this feeling!

I had one of those tech interruptions recently, again. I have a feeling this is a universal thing, so I imagine you get it.

So then I have to ask, why do I still get frustrated if this is so common? Shouldn’t I expect this by now?

Actually, yes I should expect it. This too is part of life.

Not just technology bugs, or my inability to make it work the way I want it to, but any kind of “interruption.” Sick days, friend needs help, mishaps, sick cat, forgot the keys.

Interruptions as blessings?

Some of these “interruptions” are even blessings, like the ability to connect with a friend during their hard moment. It deepens the connection. I LOVE those kinds of interruptions. Rather, those gifts.

I don’t love when I forget the keys though. Or that software won’t do what I want! Grr.

For all of it, I’m renewing my determination to embrace the so-called interruptions as part of life. Even the technology ones that I want to keep hating.

Maybe it makes me slow down a little and take a break. It’s a reminder to calm myself.

The reality of interruptions is part of why not having a tight schedule is an essential ingredient for me to have a happy life. When I don’t cram things, I am more at ease and more able to roll with the so-called unexpected – which is actually *expected*.

Leaving room for real life. Who knew.

How I add in spaciousness:

One way I leave spaciousness in my schedule is to have 45 minutes between meetings. Yes, 45. Most service providers (coaches, therapists, wellness professionals) leave only 10 minutes, at most.

45 minutes gives me time to make notes, take a break, and prepare for the next thing in a calmer way. Or to be with something unexpected.

I’ve been so much happier since I made this simple calendar change. Breathing room matters to me.

Breathing room is essential to me as a highly sensitive person (HSP).

Honestly, I’d rather make less money and still breathe. My definition of success is more than a dollar amount.

I have a feeling there are places you could add in spaciousness too. What do you think?
