Wondering About Creating Videos for Your Business?

Wondering About Creating Videos for Your Business?

If you have something to say or promote, making a short and simple video for YouTube is a great thing to prioritize. You’ve heard this but maybe you’re feeling nervous or wondering if it’s worth it. Introvert nightmare or ideal for introverts? Let’s see.

These two reasons should convince you it’s worth getting over the video hump:

  1. YouTube is the second most popular place to search, after Google.
You might be concerned about our rank in Google, but what’s your rank in YouTube?
  2. To get work in a today’s economy, you need to be findable and have a unique appeal. What better way than with the personal approach of a video?

There’s a third important reason to think about adding video and other multimedia content to your approach.

Google and other search engines are prioritizing multimedia in their search results. Notice how you commonly see video, images, and other options interspersed in your search results? That could be you.

What, Where, and How?

Here are some good starting place ideas for making and promoting your video(s):

  1. If you’re a solo service professional wanting to keep it simple and filmed on your phone, with minimal editing, check out: Authentic Video Creation (online course), especially for simple social media posts.
  2. For getting videos done well, such as for your website welcome video, get help from a business video pro. (I recommend Ayelet’s video content consultations and video editing.)
  3. If you start making videos for YouTube and want to gain more traction there, it’s time to learn about marketing on YouTube, such as this online course.

Ready to Commit?

I admit, making a video for my website is still buried in my to-do list, but I am going to commit to you now that I’ll do it within six months.

Yikes, so much else to do…<fighting it out inside>. And the introvert in me hates being videotaped… blah, blah, excuses, excuses. OK, I did say prioritize so here I go.

How about you?

My 2021 Update on Making Videos for My Business:

Since I originally wrote this post over 10 years ago, I have moved forward with video, slowly slowly. Video is even more popular now, and rewarded by Google even more now too.

  1. Hired a pro to help me create some videos about my work.
  2. Made a YouTube channel for my videos, although I haven’t built it out much.
  3. Made my first homemade video for YouTube, found here.
  4. Experimented with doing Facebook Live videos (example) and maybe I will again but haven’t stayed with it.
  5. Met with colleagues to interview each other over Zoom and post the videos on Facebook, YouTube and sometimes my blog. This as an easy place to start! (Sample: Video Interview: My Inside View on Career and Business for Introverts)
  6. making videos for your businessI’ve gotten comfortable just turning on the camera and making videos to add to my website to help explain my various services. I’m letting it be simple, basic, just me.
  7. More recently, I now make video lessons regularly for online courses. I’ve gotten good at cranking it out on my own. A big change from earlier. I even learned to edit videos.

It gets easier as I go and I want to do more.

It turns out video can work well for us introverts. You get to prepare, have notes, and redo a few times. Better yet, people aren’t expecting perfection with video anymore, so I hope you can embrace imperfection and try it out.

Maybe all this Zoom time has helped us all get a little more comfortable with video.
